A Match Made in Heaven...and at Dierbergs!

Together, Doug and Judy have nearly 80 years of combined service at Dierbergs.

On December 29th, 1979, Doug started his career as a Maintenance Associate at Manchester. He later moved into a management position overseeing the maintenance team. He's had the unique opportunity to work at 11 different store locations (some twice!) since he joined Dierbergs. These days, he calls our Des Peres location home. He played an instrumental part in opening this location in 2012.

While Doug has enjoyed his time at each location, our Florissant location holds a very special place in his heart. It was at this location that he met his now wife, Judy, who began her career with Dierbergs in 1986 and, during her 37-year tenure, has held a variety of roles including seafood manager, dairy frozen back-up and, most recently, frozen food manager. Today, Judy is the frozen food manager at the location that she also holds dearly – Florissant.

Judy has never been a stranger to the grocery industry. She grew up working in it with her family from a young age. “I like helping people. I like training and helping people feel comfortable, whether it is a new Associate or customer.”

Not only have Doug and Judy made an impact on the business, they have also made a significant impact on our customers. Together, Judy and Doug hold an astonishing 122 Extra Steps combined! Our Extra Step program recognizes the importance of celebrating our Associates when they go above and beyond for our customers.

When asked about their favorite part about working for Dierbergs, Doug and Judy share a similar thought: “It’s the people.”

“We would go on float trips together, restaurants, Christmas parties, and we even had a softball team. We have so many memories,” they elaborated.

Dierbergs is more than a career for Doug and Judy, it's a place that they have called home for many years. “It is really a great place to work. We sell groceries, but it is all about the customer service.”

Later this month, Doug and Judy will retire from Dierbergs. While they will miss the work they do, the people they get to interact with, and the customers, they are most looking forward to spending more time together, especially since on May 1st, Doug and Judy will be celebrating 35 years of marriage.

They look forward to hiking, road trips, working around the house, and spending time with their family, including their grandchildren and great-grandchild. While we are so excited for them as they embark on their next adventure, they will be greatly missed by their family here at Dierbergs.
