St. Louis, February 23, 2008 –
In response to a recall initiated by Nestle USA, Dierbergs Markets, Inc., has pulled Hot Pocket brand Philly Steak and Cheese and Croissant Crust Philly Steak and Cheese from its shelves. These products may contain beef recalled last week by the Westland/Hallmark Meat Company.
The Hot Pocket Philly Cheese Steak, 9 oz. pkg., is printed with the UPC code #43695-07107.
The Croissant Crust Philly Steak and Cheese, 9 oz. pkg., is printed with the UPC code #43695-05634.
Nestle USA, manufacturer of the Hot Pockets brand, initiated withdrawal of the products when it was alerted by a supplier that beef affected by the Westland/Hallmark Meat Company recall was used as an ingredient. The affected product's use was limited to these two products. No other Hot Pockets brand items, including multi-packs of the Philly Steak and Cheese, are affected by this withdrawal.
Regarding the Westland/Hallmark Meat company recall, no illnesses related to the recall have been reported and the USDA notes there is a low potential for health risks.
Dierbergs customers can return the affected Hot Pockets product to any Dierbergs store for a full refund.
