When Trish won a Dierbergs cooking contest in the 1980s for her Crepes Lasagna recipe, little did she know she would eventually work for their cooking school. Now, years later, Trish shares her background as a dietitian and her love for cooking in very tasty and healthy ways.
Before working at Dierbergs, Trish spent seventeen years at Deaconess Hospital working in patient care and food service management. Trish was Dierbergs Demo Program Manager for ten years, and now teaches Eat Hearty and Dining with Diabetes classes for the School of Cooking. In her classes, Trish chooses recipes that are so tasty that people take her classes, not just because the dishes are healthy, but because they sound irresistible. When she isn’t teaching, Trish is constantly testing recipes for the School of Cooking and also does the propping for their various TV and photo shoots.
Outside of work, Trish loves to bake, especially when she’s making her grandma’s butter cookie recipe. This passion for baking started at a young age when Trish spent an entire summer trying a new pie recipe almost every day during what she calls her Summer of Pies. Now Trish is teaching her five grandkids to bake which means a lot of messes, but a lot more fun.
When she’s not in the kitchen, Trish stays active by taking Zumba classes and going on bike rides. She also loves theatre, exploring bed and breakfasts and checking out wineries. She still enjoys taking cooking classes so that she can continue to learn and broaden her cooking horizons.
Trish’s Cooking Tip: “Cooking is an art and baking is a science. You can play around with measurements when you cook, but when you are baking, you have to be exact.”
