Tony Bethmann has always worked in the restaurant industry, even while studying for a career in engineering. And happily for those of us who appreciate a good meal, the lure of the kitchen, the passion for great food, and the love of family won out in the end!
In an age where chain restaurants are plentiful, Tony’s On Main Street in the downtown St. Charles Historic District is truly a family affair. As the youngest of six children, Tony has been helping his mom in the kitchen since he was five years old. And they’re still cooking side by side, sharing stories every evening at the restaurant.
Big flavor is a big deal, so it’s no surprise that all sorts of peppers and chiles are at the top of his list of favorite ingredients. A firm believer in the good value that comes from a do-it-yourself approach, Tony is out to conquer people’s fear of cooking from scratch.
