Nancy has experience in education, nutrition and cooking, all of which she uses to teach her classes new techniques and scrumptious recipes to her students. Growing up with a mom and grandma who cooked everything from scratch, Nancy learned at a young age that this way of cooking was healthy and therapeutic and she loves to pass along this knowledge to her students.
Cooking of any kind was a family experience when Nancy was young and it sparked her passion. After attending a Montessori training center, Nancy began teaching children and always made sure to include cooking in the classroom. She owned her own school for a few years before leaving to study Family and Consumer Sciences with an emphasis in Nutrition. Since then she has worked in St. John’s Hospital, taught classes to heart patients, and now works in clinical nutrition at Delmar Gardens.
Nancy began teaching for Dierbergs in 2006 and has fun teaching couples how to cook. She makes sure to choose dishes that both the men and women in class will enjoy and her dishes are always fresh because she rarely uses prepared foods. Nancy lives by the motto that what we eat is how we feel and that fun indulgences are always allowed in moderation.
Nancy’s Cooking Tip: “Use fresh ingredients when you cook to get the best flavor and make sure you prepare all the ingredients before you start cooking.”
