St. Louis, Updated January 27, 2012, 4:30 p.m. – Dierbergs Markets pulled hard-cooked eggs from its food bars in response to details of a voluntary recall forwarded Thursday by Hawkeye Foodservice of Coralville, Iowa.
Hawkeye recalled two lots of hard-cooked eggs in brine due to concerns the product could be tainted with listeria monocytogenes. There have been no complaints, reported illnesses or concerns identified with the product.
Regardless of lot code, Dierbergs removed all hard-cooked eggs distributed by Hawkeye from any food bars that carried the product.
“We are confident the product is no longer available in our stores,” said Steve Duello, general manager/director of produce operations. “And while we believe only a few of our stores received the product, our policy is to err on the side of safety, so we’ve removed the product, regardless of lot code, from all Dierbergs locations.”
Customers who purchased hard-cooked eggs from a food bar can return the product for a full refund.
Duello explained that no other egg products in the store are affected by the recall, including fresh carton eggs, eggs used in deli recipes, or hard-cooked eggs individually packaged and sold in the deli cases.
