McNeil OTC Product Update St Louis, July 9, 2010 - Following on from McNeil Consumer Healthcare's voluntary recall of certain over-the-counter products in January and a subsequent recall update in June, Dierbergs Markets is removing another item from its shelves that McNeil missed in the original recall. Motrin IB Caplets Bonus Pack, 75 ct UPC: 3-00450-48176-4 ITEM #: 8774796 LOT: ACA002 The Tylenol Extra Strength Rapid Release Gelcaps (225 ct) also included in this update to the recall by McNeil is not carried by Dierbergs.
These items have been pulled because, like the items included in the January recall, they were found to have trace amounts of a chemical called 2, 4, 6-tribromoanisole (TBA). This can result from the breakdown of a chemical that is sometimes applied to wood that is used to build wood pallets that transport and store product packaging materials. The health effects of this chemical have not been well studied, but no serious events have been documented in the medical literature. A complete list of recalled products can be found at www.mcneilproductrecall.com. Questions can also be addressed by calling the company at 1-888-222-6036. Dierbergs customers who purchased any of the products named in the recall can return them to any Dierbergs location for a full refund.
