Food Headed to Operation Food Search
Dierbergs Customers’ Give Big Over First Two Weeks of Two-Month Food Drive

For Immediate Release: November 20, 2012

WHAT: Dierbergs began its annual food drive benefiting Operation Food Search November 1. Two weeks in, an estimated 23 pallets of food have been collected from 24 stores. Seventeen of those pallets (more than 1,200 cases) are heading to Operation Food Search Tuesday from Dierbergs Central Floral Design Facility in Olivette, the company’s staging area for bag collections and production.

All Dierbergs stores participate as drop-off points for food donations to OFS throughout the holidays. Each store has pre-packaged grocery bags (or, at some stores, virtual bags) filled with basic food staples that can be purchased for under $5 or $10 and placed in the Operation Food Search bin in the store or dropped off at any local food pantry. Customers can also make donations at any checkout stand; coupons for $1, $5 and $10 benefit Operation Food Search and the fight against poverty and hunger.
WHEN: Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2012
Operation Food Search will load up trucks at approximately 7:30 a.m.
WHERE: Dierbergs Floral Central Design
10725 Baur Boulevard
Olivette, Missouri 63132
WHO: Craig Goldford, director of operations for Operation Food Search, will be on hand to accept the collections and can talk about the ongoing need in the community for food donations.
About Operation Food Search: Operation Food Search (OFS) is the largest distributor of free food to individuals in need in the bi-state region. Its monthly distributions include a network of 250 community partner agencies including food pantries, soup kitchens, shelters, orphanages and senior centers. Each month, more than 120,000 people in the St. Louis bi-state region, nearly half of whom are children, receive food assistance through this network.

Dierbergs’ relationship with Operation Food Search dates to the organization’s earliest days. When OFS was incorporated as a non-profit agency in 1981, Dierbergs was the first supermarket to donate foods.
