Big Bowl Chinese Express Expands to St. Louis
For Immediate Release: April 5, 2011
A new exclusive partnership with family-owned Dierbergs Markets brings fresh Chinese and Thai stir-fry in-store
Authentically prepared and sustainably-sourced freshly made Chinese and Thai fare is coming to Dierbergs.
Big Bowl Chinese Express, a quick-service concept modeled after the wildly popular Big Bowl casual restaurants in Chicago, Minneapolis and the Washington, D.C., area, is opening this week in Creve Coeur inside the West Oak Dierbergs, 11481 Olive Blvd. It is the first of several Big Bowl Chinese Express locations to open inside Dierberg stores as part of an exclusive partnership in St. Louis.
The newly constructed Big Bowl Chinese Express, featuring “small batch” cooking offers many of the most popular stir-fry dishes from the Big Bowl menu, such as kung pao chicken (gluten-free), Mongolian beef, orange chicken and sesame chicken. Hot and spicy favorites such as Sichuan cashew chicken and Thai hot pepper chicken will also be available as well as signature Big Bowl egg rolls, pot stickers, and hibiscus iced tea. Specials, including other gluten-free choices, will be featured regularly.
“We’re a great match with Dierbergs,” said Big Bowl President Dan McGowan. “We share a similar philosophy about quality food and the importance of the local community.”
Dierbergs shoppers will find that high quality ingredients are hallmarks of the Big Bowl Chinese Express menu. The finest Thai jasmine rice, quality brewed soy sauce, freshly toasted and ground curry spices, all natural chicken and beef and locally grown produce (when in season) make up the concept’s indelible flavors.
“Dierbergs’ focus has always been to give our customers fresh, made-from-scratch options that answer the question, What’s for dinner?” said David Calandro, Dierbergs director of food service. “Big Bowl Express complements that thinking; it’s a fresh, creative and delicious concept that will have considerable appeal to our customers.”
Stir-fry dishes range from $6.99 to $7.99, with the option of family style dining (three stir-fry choices accompanied by jasmine or brown rice and an appetizer serving three to four people) for $24.99 (and $19.99 on Fridays).
Big Bowl Chinese Express enters St. Louis as a leader in sustainability and eco-friendly operations. Last year, McGowan was recognized by Chicago Magazine with a Green Award, an honor given annually to a handful of eco-minded innovators.
Additional Big Bowl Chinese Express locations are slated to open in other Dierbergs markets later this year.
Big Bowl Chinese Express is a quick way to experience the same fresh and authentic Asian dishes that have made Big Bowl restaurants so popular, from the pad thai to the stir-fry choices that feature naturally raised chicken from family farms and local produce whenever in season. Catering is also available. Big Bowl Chinese Express is located at select Lunds and Byerly’s locations in Chicago and Minneapolis and now at Dierbergs markets in St. Louis.
