IT Business Systems Analyst
The primary responsibility of the position of the Business Analyst is to manage the overall process of gathering functional and system requirements in the implementation of new software and hardware from primarily external sources. The Business Analyst maintains working knowledge of departmental functions with user areas being supported by information systems and conducts integrated application testing of system functions and interfaces. The Business Analyst provides technical support for resolving operational issues and questions that cannot be addressed by departmentally based resources and provides in depth knowledge on software, hardware, and related technologies that are implemented to ensure they are properly utilized within the organization and provide the greatest potential benefit.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Facilitates the overall process of defining functional and performance requirements on new software and hardware systems. This includes meeting with user departments to determine critical features and functions to meet their requirements; evaluating the implementation of features and functions of 3rd party software and to make recommendations based on user requirements, product functionality, systems integration, and business process definitions; and providing support on all aspects and phases of the project life-cycle.
  • Maintains working knowledge of departmental functions with user areas being supported by information systems. Understands key business process flows and can make recommendations for change based on system functionality and internal control requirements.
  • Provides working knowledge and continued support for software, hardware, and related technologies implemented throughout the organization.
  • Is accountable for all aspects of various packaged solutions including but not limited to troubleshooting, updates and releases, testing and deployment. Builds coalitions of resources from both the IT group and user departments to ensure successful implementation of new applications and technologies.
  • Demonstrates proactive, effective communication skills including excellent written, verbal and presentation skills; provides verbal and written status reports, manages meetings, and facilitates requirements. Demonstrates effective negotiation skills with team members, users, vendors, and management.

Required Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business or closely related field.

Required Skills:

  • At least 2-3 years of experience as Business Systems Analyst that includes proven experience working with functional users, vendors and developers to acquire and implement appropriate IT systems.
  • Proven experience establishing business and functional specifications.
  • Comprehensive testing skills to ensure system is meeting all defined requirements.
  • Must understand relational databases.
  • T-SQL – must be able to write and execute SQL statements.
  • Skilled in examining and re-engineering operations and procedures.
  • Skilled in organizing resources and establishing priorities.
  • Group facilitation, mediation, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Proven experience that demonstrates excellent analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Strong system integration skills.
  • Ability to multitask and work both independently and within the team environment.
  • Proven ability to quickly process information and adapt to changing situations.
  • Proficiency at writing documentation and instructions for both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with all levels of functional and technical users.
  • Must understand basic business concepts.
  • Must understand basic programming and design concepts.

Beneficial Skills:

  • Experience with 3rd party reporting software.
  • Microsoft SharePoint – implementation, architecture and development.
  • Advanced Excel skills.
